He not only devised the Klingon language used in the "Star Trek" films, he also performed voice-over work for other characters on the show.

[snip]

In a 1998 interview, the actor was asked if he was tired of hearing the line "Beam me up, Scotty," to which he replied, "I'm not tired of it at all. Good gracious, it's been said to me for just about 31 years. It's been said to me at 70 miles an hour across four lanes on the freeway. I hear it from just about everybody. It's been fun."

I loved it when I found out he developed both Klingon and Vulcan (yep, both).

He was a really gracious man--always gentle and funny at conventions. A real person, not just an actor.

I always loved that story from the movie Trekkies about his correspondence with a woman who was depressed and suicidal, and how he contacted her and helped her out, and made her promise to meet him at a convention, and how from then on they had a ritual to meet each other at conventions after that. I mean, seriously, what TV star would do that? Most would just write that woman off as a loon.

I'm confused though, I could have sworn I read something in the news about a year ago about Doohan dying.

he left the public last year because he was very ill (parkinsons and diabetes) and had been diagnosed with Alzheimers.

The man still fathered a child in 2000 though. He had it :-)

I read that same story. He really was just a genuine person.

Thanks for sharing that picture.
I feel like it's an end of an era. I was a toddler watching that with my daddy on a teeny black and white tv way back when.
:(
I'm so glad they live on in reruns.
I went to one convention, I think it was Sulu though.
Ah well. Neat to learn such facts about him!
thanks again!
