difficult day
Jul. 6th, 2002 12:27 pmZach went to the vet for teeth cleaning...aby's mouths are always prone to excessive decay and he was looking pretty rough at just three years . We hated doing that because they have to sedate him but it needed to be done.
And then it was time to take Emily to her vet. That sucked quite hard as well. We found out she was in the 80th percentile for weight and 97th for height (woo hoo, tall and slender the doc said!)and she is very healthy and ahead of the game in her development. He also said to try and phase out her middle of the night feeding. Heh, like she'll let us. But that's what he said--to take cues from her too. I had a list of questions and they are all answered--especially the one about her head being flat in back. The doc was funny--he looked at the backs of our heads and said "do you know that your heads are kind of flat in back too?" Hee hee--he said he hears the question all the time and babies have big heads compared to the rest of them and that heads are not perfectly round. He said she was perfect and we were doing great. She smiled and babbled and wiggled and was generally terribly charming.
Then they gave her four shots. And she screamed and cried and I cried too and James looked pained. It was horrible hearing that sound--it cuts right through your heart. God I hate shot visits. The nurse was very fast and kind, though I still wanted to murder him violently as soon as she screamed. And it wasn't a yell, it was a scream. Then I held Emily and cried on her head and kissed her a lot.
But she's done for two more months and hopefully she won't have a reaction to them.
Zach should be home soon. He'll be on meds for the next two weeks to prevent infection and Ninny is on her joint meds every morning. I'm getting rather skilled at juggling cats and babies, I hope I can maintain while James is gone.
I just want to sleep for days. I bet Emily and Zach feel even more like that.
