I always loved that story from the movie Trekkies about his correspondence with a woman who was depressed and suicidal, and how he contacted her and helped her out, and made her promise to meet him at a convention, and how from then on they had a ritual to meet each other at conventions after that. I mean, seriously, what TV star would do that? Most would just write that woman off as a loon.
I'm confused though, I could have sworn I read something in the news about a year ago about Doohan dying.

The man still fathered a child in 2000 though. He had it :-)
I read that same story. He really was just a genuine person.
