It actually happened this morning, but I've just now gotten a break.
James walked into the kitchen where I was doing the morning kitchen chores, Emily is in her playpen with her book and cheerie o's and she stands up, looks right at him and says DA DA and then let rip with a huge smile.
We tested it several more times and sure enough, she's made the connection.
I was proud, happy and tearful and just the tiniest bit jealous that mama wasn't the first word. In that I'm like all other moms I guess...but happy and proud were the dominant emotions.
Why didn't anyone tell me this first year would blow by so fast? She turned 10 months old just last week...

Date: 2003-03-05 06:56 pm (UTC)Jyllian, don't feel bad: I've read that "Da Da" is a lot easier for kids to say than "Ma Ma" for some reason. I'm sure my mom the speech pathologist could give you a detailed explanation for why this is so, if you really really want to know. But I think just reveling in having such an advanced and amazing munchkin is good enough.
Of course, if James rubs it in, the gloves are off. :)

And truly, I am just being proud at the smart girl...when he came in during her bath she looked up and said it again with a huge smile, then tried to climb into my armpit...so she loves us both, no doubt.
