The birthday update

I wish I could quote chapter and verse from "awakening at midlife" --I hate the title, but everything in it is TRUE, true, true for me. I suggest that everyone who cares about someone 35 or older or everyone who is 35 or older go out and get this book.

I still may later actually quote bits...it has made me reread parts of the inferno...

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.

Very true.

Anyway. we aren't going out tonight because poor poor bean is sick. We were up all night with her--had to give her a bath in the middle of the night to bring her fever down from 103. If there is anyone in Chicago that wants tickets to I love you, you're perfect, now change. Give me a call. What's interesting is that I"m not at all bummed about this. I know exactly where I should be--here at home with the Bean and James. We're all still feeling kind of sick anyway, so we'll just enjoy that ice cream cake and have a warm, book filled, snuggling, cat laden day. How much better could it be?

It has been a good morning/day in between sad bean times. I've been on the phone since 8 this morning, which, if you know me, is rather remarkable. So many birthday wishes, I'm fairly bouncing off the walls. My friend Ben, whom I've known since 7th grade, sent me the most beautiful moonshadow carnations. I'm trying to keep Bartleby from eating them. He may be a reincarnation of mr. newguise. Anyway, I'm just feeling very blessed to have such good people in my life. It is very very good to be re-connected with my past, especially in Fayetteville, right now. It makes all the things I'm thinking and feeling make so much more sense.

What I can't get over is how GOOD I feel. Like I just crossed some threshold. I know it's illusory, but it does bode well.

And because you need them:

You have the most adorable family EVER.

In the first picture it looks as if Miss Bean is coveting her dad's batter beater even though she's holding one of her own. :)

there's another picture where he was doing the same thing to hers. He tried to take a bite of her beater, then she leaned over and got some of his. It was terribly cute.

and thank you for the singing email birthday wish "LA"

Awww! So cute :)

Happy birthday!

Are you sure they won't let you exchange the tickets for another time? Some theaters do that.

I'm so glad we found each other again too :-) I have many fond memories of watching tv in the boys clubhouse.

Look how BIG she's getting! Oh my gosh! And happy birthday to you. I'm feeling the exact same way about the big 3-5. I was dreading it but now that it's almost here I feel downright ebullient...

and it doesn't hurt that all of my friends tell me life begins at forty anyways so that's something to look forward to..

I just don't get how these kidlets keep growing. Do you know how to get them to stop:-)

If you have a chance check out the book I mentioned. It's jungian and buddhist in nature, very cool. I can't believe how many of the 'symptoms' I'd been having- the restlessness, the need for more creativity, the need for more solitude and changing in friendships, desires...just lots of things. Every page I turned I underlined something.

I have to say that I am eager to be putting some things behind me and aging helps with that.

happy bday!!!
