Frienditto

Hey, if you are using the frienditto service please unfriend me and I'll do the same. Nothing about you personally, but just don't like the service.

I'll miss you.

It's down right now, but it's a service that will copy your entries for archival purposes. It is also able to copy your locked friends entries as well. Anyone who is on your friends list can copy an entry (even a locked one) and make it public. With all the comments.

Here's a good description of the problem

I understand the reasons for and against it. I just don't like the easy misuse of it. I don't think I have anyone on that would use it for EEeevil, but it's a principle kind of thing.

It doesn't do this. Baseless LJ fearmongering: http://www.livejournal.com/users/jameth/1786474.html?view=23704682#t23704682 for how it really works.

jes..I understand you can do the same thing with copy paste and such. Truly any friend on a locked post could post it anywhere (it's happened amongst folks I know) BUT friendditto makes it easier and maybe a bit easier to hide.

Truly you should post a damn thing on the net that you don't want everyone to see. And you shouldn't give up your password anyway. To anybody. Of course I don't always follow my own best advice too, so I'd get what I deserve. I just don't like how much easier it will be to fuck with people if you get mad at them.

Of course it's a neat idea too. Appreciate that but I'm old and crotchety now.

I know and I agree with you. I don't agree with the practice of archiving FO posts. However for the most part, I don't think people will be out archiving stuff maliciously all the time. I think the only people who will get trapped by this sort of thing are those people who are incredibly dramatic and would have ended up on LJD on their own public entries. The amount of FO drama submitted to LJD is pretty small, and is those same afore-mentioned dramaqueens for the most part.

I think a lot of people are getting their panties in a twist over nothing, for the most part people don't really care about other people's FO crap.

I agree that the freakout is out of proportion. And it's the internet, fercrissakes, NOTHING is safe.

back in the day... oh never mind, you know what I used to be like.

The password issue in a non issue for me as is the 'affliation' with LJ.
It's just that I've recently come out of a personal drama patch and want shit to stay quiet for a good long while. And I'm not quite sure I covered all my privacy bases, though I think I did.

Make sense?

Ohhh

That's actually a protected entry.
