I just read that the number one name of 2001 is Emily. We decided on Emily Autumn early as our girls choice name, even before we knew she was a girl. Mostly after Emily Dickenson and a bit after Emily Strange ( http://www.emilystrange.com) . And BTW--we know that there is some horrid graver musician by the same name, but she spells her name differently AND we didn't know about her when we came up with the name.

Maybe use Emily as a middle (or 2nd) name since you like it so much and then you may want to consider finding a more unique name for her first name...

I don't think you should change your choice, but you could always call her Autumn and use her middle name. I always thought it was cool to meet people who went by their middle names. :)

The other thing is that your Emily will be so much more cool than all those other Emily's that it's almost like it is a different name.

I've alwayse liked "Emi" or you could call her Emme, after that hot and zaftig model chick from Mode magazine. These would be nicknames of course, her legal name ought to remain as you've intended it these last eight months.
Also to consider is the fact that by the time (or age) that this might be of any concern to her, she'll already have her own web domain AND internet pseudonym thanks to having such wickedly smart parents. So at that point she can be called whatever she likes!

Whataver you choose for her name, she will be unique. You never know---there may not be another Emily her age for miles around--many name trends tend to be regional.

While I must say that having a unique name has definitely given me a strong sense of identity, I have to agree that her name *is* already Emily. I also agree that you can cultivate a nice nickname for her, or use her middle name. Also, if she's anything like you guys, she will be so fucking beautiful and special and smart and different and unique that there is NO WAY she can ever blend in with the Emily Army(tm).

You and James like the name Emily and that should be all that matters. And, speaking as someone who had both an unusual first and middle name growing up, it could be nice to have a name that's not going to get misspelled or misprounounced everytime you turn around. If she wants to stand out, she can go by Autumn and if she doesn't, she can go by Emily. Just my 2-cents, of course.

...speaking as an emily, i'd have to say, keep it. >:D (btw, i'm a friend of eva's (http://www.livejournal.com/users/eac/).) i didn't like my name for a long time, but i'm surprisingly pleased with it now, and i frequently get told what a pretty name it is. and, well, it is! and i think "emily autumn" is a _lovely_ combination. >:)
