crap

I just read that the number one name of 2001 is Emily. We decided on Emily Autumn early as our girls choice name, even before we knew she was a girl. Mostly after Emily Dickenson and a bit after Emily Strange ( http://www.emilystrange.com) . And BTW--we know that there is some horrid graver musician by the same name, but she spells her name differently AND we didn't know about her when we came up with the name.

[Poll #26392]

popular names suck...

Maybe use Emily as a middle (or 2nd) name since you like it so much and then you may want to consider finding a more unique name for her first name...

I can't recall if I've mentioned it but the names we've picked are: FEMALE - Jaden Storm and MALE - Torin Xander.

wouldn't that be reverse-peer-pressure? *not* doing something you want to do because other people are doing it?

good point. And probably the one that would keep us from changing.

I just remember all the jennifers and kims I went to school with and don't want her to be
emilym or emily1 or something that groups her like that.

that was the prob my hubby had

being a Jason and all... he was always Jason S or "Sparks".

Whereas with my experience being the only Cara-Mae was different. Sometimes I was teased because my name was/is unusual BUT I think it gave me a better sense of self being the only one.

Maybe you can flip the names... Autumn Emily (maybe throw in a 3rd name here) and your surname.

And I can't explain why I suggested a 3rd name, I just think with Autumn first a 3rd name might help it all flow better :>

Don't give in! You should name her exactly what you want to.
And if there is a huge plethora of Eiilys she could always use Autumn. :)

How about Autumn Emily?

[identity profile] therealgothikka.livejournal.com 2002-04-05 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
You could still call her "Em" :)

Just a thought from the peanut gallery.. :)

[identity profile] jetgrrl01.livejournal.com 2002-04-05 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think you should change your choice, but you could always call her Autumn and use her middle name. I always thought it was cool to meet people who went by their middle names. :)

The other thing is that your Emily will be so much more cool than all those other Emily's that it's almost like it is a different name.

[identity profile] aprilrobin.livejournal.com 2002-04-05 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
April Robin is like my real name but I go by only "Robin" in real life.
Except professionly when I am "April Robin".
Lol - i'm thinking about actually dropping my last name completely - when I become famous of course ;)

I ended up doing this because, believe it or not - there were 2 other Aprils in my grade when I was little.

Its cool to have a little secret and a choice!

emily is already her name, i think. if you're really worried about her being called something different at school, just cultivate a nice nickname for her.

[identity profile] anti-pathy.livejournal.com 2002-04-05 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've alwayse liked "Emi" or you could call her Emme, after that hot and zaftig model chick from Mode magazine. These would be nicknames of course, her legal name ought to remain as you've intended it these last eight months.
Also to consider is the fact that by the time (or age) that this might be of any concern to her, she'll already have her own web domain AND internet pseudonym thanks to having such wickedly smart parents. So at that point she can be called whatever she likes!
You are so sweet for thinking about these things in advance. I bet a lot of kids wish their parents were so considerate.

How about just spelling it differently?

Whataver you choose for her name, she will be unique. You never know---there may not be another Emily her age for miles around--many name trends tend to be regional.

[identity profile] rfd.livejournal.com 2002-04-05 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
While I must say that having a unique name has definitely given me a strong sense of identity, I have to agree that her name *is* already Emily. I also agree that you can cultivate a nice nickname for her, or use her middle name. Also, if she's anything like you guys, she will be so fucking beautiful and special and smart and different and unique that there is NO WAY she can ever blend in with the Emily Army(tm).

[identity profile] cheekytubemouse.livejournal.com 2002-04-05 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
You and James like the name Emily and that should be all that matters. And, speaking as someone who had both an unusual first and middle name growing up, it could be nice to have a name that's not going to get misspelled or misprounounced everytime you turn around. If she wants to stand out, she can go by Autumn and if she doesn't, she can go by Emily. Just my 2-cents, of course.

Name her what you will. I'm calling her Stink-weasel regardless.

[identity profile] pywacket.livejournal.com 2002-04-13 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
if you call her stink weasle I will make sure she calls you uncle fartpants.

hey, you don't know me, but...

...speaking as an emily, i'd have to say, keep it. >:D (btw, i'm a friend of eva's (http://www.livejournal.com/users/eac/).) i didn't like my name for a long time, but i'm surprisingly pleased with it now, and i frequently get told what a pretty name it is. and, well, it is! and i think "emily autumn" is a _lovely_ combination. >:)

anyway, good luck and, uh, deliver safely. >;) may your labor pains be few...
